FMEA is meant to be a “before-the-event” action, not an “after-the-fact” exercise. To achieve the greatest value, the FMEA must be conducted before the implementation of a product or process in which the failure mode potential exists. The FMEA is not a “stand-alone” document. For example, the output of tlie FMEA can be used as input for subsequent product development processes. It is the summary of the team’s discussions and analysis.
