Absolutely terrific book about superhet (and other styles) of radio design. It's like sitting at the bench with the author and watching him put them together, discussing why he made the choices that he did. He even goes a little bit into SDR (software-defined radio) construction! One thing that really impressed me about the book is the organization. I've never seen it done this way in other technical books. Basically, in the first half of the book he goes through building the radios and discussing design tradeoffs. That's the fun part. In the second half of the book, he goes into all the theory, trying hard to stay with simple math whenever possible. So, if you don't want to deal with theory, you don't have to! You just read from the beginning and start building! But if you have questions, or want to learn even more, you certainly can. What a terrific book!!!If I had not heard an interview of the author on the podcast "The Amp Hour," I would not have considered this book just because of the title.
